KitaabLoop ("we", "our", or "us") operates the KitaabLoop mobile application and website. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
Information we collect
We collect the following information when you use KitaabLoop:
- Account information: Your email address and family name, provided when you create an account.
- Profile data: Your family's hub assignment and points balance, maintained to operate the exchange.
- Book data: ISBN numbers, titles, authors, and cover images of books you list or borrow through the app.
- Transaction data: Records of book deposits, requests, and collections associated with your account.
- Push notification token: A device token generated by Expo used to send you notifications about your books and exchange appointments. This is collected when you log in and grant notification permissions.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect solely to operate KitaabLoop:
- To create and manage your account and points balance.
- To match book listings with requests within your hub.
- To send push notifications about book requests, pickups, and upcoming exchange appointments.
- To allow hub agents to verify deposits and confirm collections.
- To display book metadata (title, author, cover) fetched from public book databases.
Information we do not collect
- We do not collect payment information — KitaabLoop uses a points-based system with no monetary transactions.
- We do not collect your location.
- We do not collect usage analytics or tracking data.
- We do not serve advertisements.
Third-party services
KitaabLoop uses the following third-party services to operate:
- Supabase (supabase.com) — our database and authentication provider. Your account data and book records are stored on Supabase infrastructure.
- Expo (expo.dev) — used to deliver push notifications to your device.
- Open Library (openlibrary.org) and Google Books API — used to look up book metadata (title, author, cover image) from an ISBN when you list a book. No personal data is sent to these services.
We do not sell your data to any third party.
Data retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you would like your account and associated data deleted, please contact us at hello@kitaabloop.com and we will process your request within 30 days.
Children's privacy
KitaabLoop accounts are created by adults on behalf of their families. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information without parental consent, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Security
We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and row-level security on our database. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of KitaabLoop after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
